Breast reconstruction following mastectomy

Mastectomy is an amputating operation and usually an intense psychological burden for a woman. Reconstructing the breast after an oncologic mastectomy is considered an integral part of a complete treatment. It usually entails more than one surgery procedures, which are performed at different stages.

The operation of breast reconstruction may be either immediate, i.e. during the surgery for the tumour excision, or after months or even years.
